The Tulsa World has featured Annie Ellicott, a rising star in our jazz community, in several articles praising her vocal talent. According to her dad Annie began at the age of three months when she gurgled (on key) along with her brother as he practiced for the Tulsa Boys Singers.
Annie joined the Tulsa Youth Opera Choir in elementary school and has performed in several operas and musical theater productions since.
Her experience with jazz began early with Big Band Saturday Night on KBEZ. That exposure acquainted her well with all of the old jazz standards. By the time she was in ninth grade she had become first chair saxophone and jazz vocalist at Tulsa Central High School Jazz Band under the direction of Sonny Gray. Annie was All City high school jazz vocalist in 2001.
Annie has played with many of our well known local jazz artists, such as; Jack Hannah , Pat Murray, Rod Ellicott, Frank Brown Ron McCrory, Bill Crosby, John Glazier Rebecca Unger man, Sonny Gray, Buddy Bruce, Earl Clark and Gayle Williamson.
We anticipate many years of great jazz vocals from this rising star on the Tulsa Jazz scene.
